music that's Lola approved.
A lot is going down in the rap scene right now. And one of the best groups out there in my opinion is Clipping. from Sub Pop Records. Clipping is a form of waveform distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven and attempts to deliver an output voltage or current beyond its maximum capability. And the group Clipping. does just that. Their Facebook about states: “Clipping: make party music for the club you wish you hadn’t gone to, the car you don’t remember getting in, and the streets you don’t feel safe on.” They are unique to say the least. I listen to a lot of music. So most things I listen to once or twice then move on, if I even listen to it all the way through. But this album has got to be one of my favorites in a long time. I swear I’ve listen to this thing straight through at least 5-6 times. There’s something about this music that is ahead of it’s time yet feels nostalgic. What I mean is, you could say they’re right on par with Kanye’s Yeezus music and yadda yadda yadda. But truth be known, they seem to take a more simpler minamalistic approach to the noise they choose. And everything seems to be for a reason. Case in point: you have the great song Dream followed by Get Up which starts off with an alarm clock that continues to go off for the entire 2:56 as it crescendos into a synth like beat right at the end, only to switch back to the alarm clock. It has that old school feeling of old school hip hop in the sense these are narratives not just drugs, money and hoes. This group takes the rap genre and flips it upside down and looks to make a name for itself in the pioneering of newness. For sure you should check out the whole album below and the video off their first single Work Work which I reposted. Some of the songs you should really check out are Taking Off, Work Work, Tonight, and Story 2. This group is definitely one to watch
Just found their second video for Body And Blood
